Meet Your Neighbor: Wayne Simmons

1. Tell us about yourself.
I grew up traveling a lot because my dad did construction on power plants. I believe my record for the most moves is 6 schools in one school year, but somehow I still started and finished that school year at the same school, in Mt. Pleasant, TX. I was born and (mostly) raised in East Texas but also spent several years in Louisiana. I moved to the Mansfield area in December of 2000. I have 4 children, Eric 24, Michael 21, Jacob 18 and Kaysi 16. I just celebrated 2 years of marriage with my wonderful wife Amber. Any free time I have, I spend it with Amber & Kaysi, hanging out, trying new recipes or whatever new adventure we want to try next. We all work hard, so we play hard too, and I couldn’t be happier with my life right now.

2. Tell us about your business.
Kennedale Chiropractic is the 2nd chiropractic clinic for us. Dr. George Bobbitt & Glenda Tiller first opened Mansfield Chiropractic in May of 2004, then Kennedale in May of 2014. Later this month, we’re opening Arlington Chiropractic, located at 2401 W Pioneer Parkway in the Central Arlington/Pantego area. All three centers offer Advanced Chiropractic technology with a multi-disciplined approach with a focus on corrective care. We offer DRX Spinal Decompression, Physiotherapy, Nutrition Education and most importantly, education as to why your body is not functioning properly. We want to help answer the “Why am I hurting” question and help to correct the actual problem and not just fix the symptoms.

4. How did you get into Chiropractic Care?
I actually started out as a Massage Therapist. I opened Main St. Massage in Mansfield in 2002, then in 2004 I met Glenda and Dr. Bobbitt, the owners, at the ribbon cutting for their brand new Mansfield Chiropractic Center. Massage and Chiropractic goes hand in hand (yes, pun intended!). The 3 of us quickly became friends and began to refer to each other. As our business grew so did our friendship. In 2009 I decided that I was tired of wearing the “owner hat” and Mansfield Chiropractic wanted to expand into having a Massage Therapy Department, so we teamed up forces and I became the newest member of the Mansfield Chiropractic Family. As the Massage Therapy department grew, Dr. Bobbitt shared his vision for me with me, to become the full time Marketing & Community Relations Representative. Since I was already actively plugged into the community, it was an easy transition.  I love that my original goal of helping people through massage can now be magnified on a much broader scale; I’m still helping people, but by getting out & involved, I can reach so many more people than just the few appointments I might have in a day, and teach them all about how some simple changes and treatments can truly make a difference in their lives.

Even better, Glenda and Dr. Bobbitt are strongly committed to not just marketing to the area, but really having a positive impact on the community. With their support and encouragement, I’m able to participate in everything from charity runs to teacher appreciation days, donating our time, money, and best of all, massages, to deserving people all around the Kennedale & Mansfield area. Yes, we’d love for some of those we reach to become patients, but that’s not why we do it. We’re here in the community to make a difference in the community, and a big part of my role with the company is to find new ways to do that, every day.

5. Who is your target customer?
The short answer, everyone. What people have to understand about Chiropractic Care is that it helps with so much more than just headaches and back pain. If you are experiencing any type of loss of function that is decreasing your quality of life, chances are, we can help you. Here’s the short version of how. Nerves control EVERYTHING in your body, they travel from your brain, through the spinal column and branch out to the entire body. When you have a misalignment of the vertebra in the spine, it creates an impingement on the nerves creating a loss of function to the area or organ in the body that the nerve is going to. The PROPER realignment of that vertebra corrects the impingement on the nerve and that allows the brain and that part of the body to communicate properly allowing function to restore.

6. What do you like about the Kennedale area?
Simply put, it feels like home. Kennedale is a close knit community that when you go out, you run into your friends while you are out and about. That is a very comforting feeling to have in a community and we are honored to be here, where we can be of help and support to both the people and Kennedale.

7. Why are you involved in the Chamber?
I feel that the Chamber is the best way to get involved in giving back to the community. Through the events that the Chamber offers I am able to find out what is happening in the community. The best part is that being a Chamber member allows me to meet new people and make new friends. I love when I can find a business to work with, like offering stretching clinics for Camp Gladiator, or having a booth at Emerald Hills’ Fall Festival. As small businesses, we have a duty to help each other, and we’re all stronger when we work together. The chamber makes those alliances easy, and helps us connect with the best, most like-minded business professionals in the area. Plus, they have a lot of fun events, and I love to have fun!

8. What are your biggest challenges in business right now?
Believe it or not, giving away FREE CHAIR MASSAGES. We offer free chair massages to businesses for their employees, and the hardest part is getting into businesses to do them. I think it’s the FREE part, people think that there is a catch to it. We just want the opportunity to meet new people and if they are interested in our services, then we are excited about the chance to be able to help someone improve their quality of life. We work through this, and other challenges to getting people to try chiropractic care with lots of education. Education in regards to the ways that we can help by partnering together to take care of their staff, and educating people on how to take care of themselves naturally with Chiropractic Care instead of chemicals that just mask the symptoms.  And hey, if this article educates anyone who is interested in massages for their office? Please call me!

9. What are your goals for your business in the next year?
I would like to be providing free chair massages in more businesses in the Kennedale area…no office is too small! I’m also working on finding more speaking opportunities for Dr. Bobbitt. He has a wealth of knowledge on a variety of topics and loves to give back. So, if you need a speaker, I know a guy.  The more we can get his message of health and wellness out in the community, and the more we can give back, the more I expect it to come back to us in return.  And of course, we’ve got a ton of work ahead in getting our new Arlington Chiropractic location up and going, but it’s all really exciting stuff, so I can’t complain. I’ve been really pleased with this journey over the last seven years and can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
